Annual Labor Day Pier Swim

The Pier Swim opens with swimmers diving into the surf, circles one mile around the pier and ultimately ends with swimmers riding waves onto the beach and dashing towards a finish line on the sand. Not much has changed in the years since it began, it is still an excuse to gather some of the most hardcore swimmers in the country, and even Canada, together to compete. The Pier Swim has transferred from being a fundraiser for the City of Oceanside itself to being the main fundraiser for the Oceanside Swim Club. A non-profit organization and competitive swim team for children 5-18 years of age. The Pier Swim allows children over 12 to participate and has swimmers in their twilight years, 70s and 80s. The mile can be enjoyed by all and is deaded by others coerced into doing it with their friends. However, one thing is true, after one time it is hard to stay away from friendly competition that the Pier Swim brings annually to Oceanside’s shores.

The Mighty O.A.R. with American Authors and Rozzi

The Mighty O.A.R. with American Authors and Rozzi

Some things are built to last. During the course of its two decades of making records, O.A.R. — lead singer and primary songwriter Marc Roberge, drummer Chris Culos, guitarist Richard On, bassist Benj Gershman and saxophonist/guitarist Jerry DePizzo — has created and maintained a sort of a parallel universe. In effect hiding in plain sight from the world outside, the band fills arenas and amphitheaters as it crafts and releases relatable songs with big pop hooks. Within this universe, these songs are bona fide hits, and the band members are superstars. O.A.R. is gearing up to release their ninth studio album, The Mighty, this Spring.

Brooklyn-based American Authors are best known for their hit singles “Believer” and “Best Day of My Life” from their debut album Oh, What a Life, as well as their Top 20 hit, “Go Big or Go Home,” from their second album, What We Live For. Their latest release is 2019’s Seasons.

Rozzi first emerged at 19 years old after being discovered by Adam Levine. Her undeniable vocals and her willingness to be fiercely honest with her lyrics have inspired comparisons to Amy Winehouse and Aretha Franklin. Rozzi is currently finishing her first full length album for Small Giant/Columbia Records due later this year.

Joe Russo's Almost Dead
Aug

7:00 PM19:00

Joe Russo's Almost Dead

Joe Russo's Almost Dead is Scott Metzger, Tommy Hamilton, Dave Dreiwitz, Marco Benevento & Joe Russo.

"Not only does this quintet play tight and vicious versions of some of the most complex songs in the Grateful Dead's repertoire, but they play them with a rawness & energy absent from the stage since the 'Live' Dead era. More importantly, all of the jams are wild and incredibly adventurous. Russo's a beast behind the kit who's in the peak of his career. Metzger is a criminally underrated guitarist who has a chameleon-like ability to alter his sound to compliment any situation. Dreiwitz's intensity is unmatched by anyone, while Benevento spouts these crazy tones and layers of sound that mix the best of what each keyboardist in GD history brought to the band. Finally, add Hamilton, whose voice and biting leads help push this ensemble over the top." - Scott Bernstein, Jambase 9.12.13

Doors open at 5:30pm. Tickets are $42.50.
